As of late, Justin Bieber’s knack for hit-making has been paralleled only by his ability to make headlines for controversial topics. In the latest of these headlines, the 19-year-old was arrested in Miami for driving under the influence, resisting arrest, and driving with a suspended license. The arrest came after the pop star reportedly was involved in a drag race with fellow musician and friend Khalil Sharief. The race saw both artists travelling at speeds twice the amount of the speed limit in a residential area of Miami.

In other news, fans of R&B can rejoice after learning of the return of Maxwell. The singer announced his return to music with blackSUMMERS’night, the follow up to 2009’s album. The album fulfills the second volume of what was reported as a trilogy back when the first installment (which included the smash “Pretty Wings”) was released in 2009. The R&B veteran couldn’t have asked for better timing, as the new record is set to be released on Valentine’s Day via Columbia Records.
Finally, the artist formerly known as Mos Def performed new material in front of a live crowd in the motherland of Africa. Yasiin Bey’s latest concert was a part of a series of events to take place on the continent as an initiative of his “A Country Called Earth” arts collective. Fans around the world were able to tune into to the performance via a live stream from Okayplayer. The unprecedented performance could possibly be the start of a trend that would certainly be welcomed, especially in the hip hop world.
